Frequently Asked Questions
How do I proceed after receiving a ticket?
You have three options:
1. You may appear in court at 12509 School Street Rodman, NY at the date and time on your ticket.
2. You may fill out the right side of your ticket; enter a guilty plea and mail it back to the court at, Town of Rodman Court PO Box 431 Rodman, NY 13682
3. You may speak to the Assistant District Attorney and ask for a reduction in charges.
How do I make a request for a reduction?
Contact the court to see if your court date is scheduled for the DA night. If it's not, you may request an adjournment for the next DA night of the court. You must contact the court, do not just skip your court date!
You may also contact the District Attorney's Office (315-785-3053) for instructions regarding the information they request for a possible reduction. Again, if you are requesting a reduction from the DA by mail you MUST contact the court and advise us that you are doing so. If you do not show up on your court date, it is considered failure to appear, which could result in a driver’s license suspension. After the DA receives your information they will send you a notice of plea agreement. If you wish to accent the plea, sign it and send it within 10 days to Rodman Town Court PO Box 431 Rodman, NY 13682. Please be advised that all plea agreements are subject to the FINAL APPROVAL OF THE JUDGE.
If you decide to reject the plea agreement offered and proceed with a trial, notify the Court and they will send you a notice of your trial date.
What happens if I send in a guilty plea by mail?
The Court will send you a letter stating the amount of the fine and NYS Mandatory surcharge.
What payments options do I have?
You can mail your payment in the form of a certified check or money order to Town of Rodman Court PO Box 431 Rodman, NY 13682.
You can pay the exact amount of your fine/surcharge in cash at the court clerk’s office at the address and the hours of operation listed above, or on a court night.
What do I do if I enter a plea of not guilty by mail?
You need do nothing other than enter the plea and state whether or not you wish a supporting deposition. The court will notify you your next date to appear.
What is a supporting deposition?
A supporting deposition is a written instrument accompanying or filed in connection with a traffic which contains additional facts that support the charge or charges.
What is a scofflaw?
A scofflaw occurs when a person fails to answer or appear on a summons or does not pay an assessed fine. The Court notifies the DMV when any of these occur and they in turn send out notices of suspension. You are usually given 30 days to take care of the ticket before the suspension goes into effect.
What do I do if I receive a suspension notice?
Contact the Court. If the suspension is for failure to pay a fine you must pay the fine, along with any surcharge and you may be subject to a scoff fee of $70 if the suspension has already taken affect. If the suspension is for failure to appear, you must either enter a guilty plea by mail or appear in court.
